AAPM&R 2015, Boston: Intronix Technologies to Supply Myoguide for Three Hands-On Workshops

Intronix has been officially invited to supply Myoguide units for three hands on workshops at the American Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The AAPM&R Annual Assembly is taking place at the Boston Hynes Convention Centre, from October 1st- 4th, 2015. These workshops are an excellent way to pick up valuable hands-on experience when learning about guided injections of Neuromodulators, such as Botox© and Dysport©. There is also a great opportunity to actually use a handheld Myoguide injection guidance system!

Workshop #1
Thursday, October 1, 2015 4 – 5 pm
W208. Cranial Nerve Dystonias: Diagnosis, and Treatment with Phenol and Botulinum Toxin Injections.
Level: Intermediate
Abraham Alfaro, PhD, DO (Director); John McGuire, MD; Ib Odderson, MD PhD
Cranial nerve dystonias include cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, oromandibular dystonia with jaw opening or closing, and bruxism. To identify the dystonic muscles, electromyography is performed for muscles at rest, during concentric contractions, and with provocative maneuvers to activate dystonic muscles when they should be electrically silent. Dystonic muscles are chemodenervated with motor point injections of phenol and/or botulinum toxins. Spinal accessory nerve blocks with phenol are performed to chemodenervate sternocleidomastoid and upper trapezius muscles for cervical dystonia, and for essential tremors. In this workshop, techniques to avoid complications associated with injections will be discussed. Case studies will be presented, with participants identifying dystonic muscles for chemodenervation.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to describe dystonias involving facial and cervical muscles that are innervated by cranial nerves; develop protocols to identify dystonic muscles using electromyography, and if needed, diagnostic anesthetic injections; improve techniques to inject motor points with botulinum toxins and phenol; and inject phenol onto spinal accessory nerves.

Workshop #2
IW805. Improving Assessment and Maximizing Intervention Options for Patients with Spasticity, Dystonia and related Motor Disorders
Friday, October 2, 2015 10 am – 1 pm
10:00 am – 1:00 pm
IW805. Improving Assessment and Maximizing Intervention Options for Patients with Spasticity, Dystonia, and Related Motor Disorders
Abraham Alfaro, PhD, DO; Katharine E. Alter, MD; Jeimylo C. De Casro, MD; Franklin Domingo, MD; Elie Elovic, MD; Alberto Esquenazi, MD; Darryl L. Kaelin, MD; Nicholas C. Ketchum, MD; John R. McGuire, MD; Atul T. Patel, MD; Michael Saulino, MD, PhD; Monica Verduzco-Gutierrez, MD ; Thomas K. Watanabe, MD MD
This workshop will focus on improving your ability to identify and assess appropriate treatment options to optimize outcomes for patients with spasticity, dystonia, and related motor disorders. Treatment techniques will include injections, including ultrasound guidance, pump management and protocols, and other intervention options. Attendees will participate in hands-on demonstrations to practice and reinforce the concepts and techniques covered during this 3-hour intensive workshop.
Learning Objectives: Acquire enhanced skills in the diagnosis, assessment, goal setting and management of treating patients with spasticity and other common forms of muscle hypertonia; Improve their skills in muscle selection and targeting for chemodenervation procedures; Utilize training for ultrasound guidance for chemodenervation of commonly targeted muscles or structures, ultrasound assisted ITB Pump refills, and ITB trouble shooting
